The EMPATHY.AI Summer School is a two-week, intensive educational programme designed to provide participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in affective computing and human-centred artificial intelligence. Hosted by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the programme integrates theory, practice and entrepreneurship, enabling students to understand how emotional intelligence can be embedded into AI systems responsibly and effectively.

During the first week, participants acquire foundational knowledge through lectures, interactive seminars, and guided discussions covering topics such as emotion recognition, multimodal data analysis, human–AI interaction, ethical AI, and responsible innovation. The second week focuses on experiential and project-based learning. Multidisciplinary teams work on real-life challenges proposed by industry or research partners, applying design thinking, prototyping, and validation methods. Participants develop AI-driven concepts while addressing user needs, societal impact, and ethical considerations. Entrepreneurship modules support the development of value propositions, business models, and communication skills. The summer school will conclude with a final pitch session assessed by academic and industry experts.

Throughout the program, the students will benefit from continuous mentoring, teamwork, reflective activities but also social activities adding networking and collaboration opportunities.
