Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program for US students

Note: Only 50% available seats for this Summer School program.

Organisations often struggle to adapt to new technologies and the rapid integration of disruptive IT technologies such as AI. This challenge becomes more pronounced in a landscape of continuous and accelerating change, where not all organisations are agile enough to overcome cultural and organisational inertia.

Summer Schools on Digital Technologies and Entrepreneurship that EIT Digital has been implementing since 2019 have been directly addressing these challenges by arming participants with the skills to analyse work processes and organizations in the context of emerging digital technologies. Through a blend of workshops and hands-on work on actual company challenges, participants learn how to develop innovative work methods and lay the groundwork for a reorganization, new venture or spin-off of the company.

The 2024 Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program offers a new summer school program that fosters knowledge transfer to US students. Participants, guided by renowned experts, tackle real-world challenges provided by leading regional digital tech companies.

Main Topics

A dynamic and immersive two-week summer school at the crossroads of digital technologies and entrepreneurship, brought to you by EIT Digital and the University of Ljubljana (School of Economics and Business). This transformative experience extends beyond the typical academic setting, offering a unique blend of collaborative projects, expert lectures, and hands-on experiences that propel students into the heart of real-world challenges faced by global companies and institutions.

The program stands out for its commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation. Participants work in teams to tackle concrete challenges presented by partnering tech companies. This hands-on approach not only hones problem-solving skills but also delivers practical solutions that benefit both the students and the entities seeking innovative answers. Upon request, participants can join a 6-week internship program, where they further develop and implement their proposed solutions within the companies.

The emphasis on entrepreneurship ensures that the solutions crafted during the program are not only technically robust but also commercially viable. Through intensive sessions on business concept design, participants learn to apply cutting-edge digital technologies to reshape industries and contribute to economic growth. Renowned experts provide insights, and participants have the opportunity to present their innovative concepts directly to the companies, addressing real challenges in their business environment.

By encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and knowledge transfer between the USA and EU, the summer program provides a global perspective on entrepreneurship styles and options. The culmination of the program sees participants receiving 4 ECTS credits, acknowledging the academic rigor and practical applicability of the experience.

Join us for a summer of innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration – where ideas come to life, challenges become opportunities, and students are empowered to shape the digital future. This is a pathway to transformative experiences and lasting impact.

Schedule

Intended Audience

The program is open to young professionals as well as Bachelor or Master students from the USA, who want to deep-dive in emerging digital technologies and learn how to turn these technologies into business. This will enable them to become innovators and entrepreneurs in the field of digital transformation, managing innovation activities in their own start-up companies or in large enterprises as designers, developers and founders.

As the program has a focus on business innovation and entrepreneurship, there is no need to have specific technical backgrounds or any coding knowledge to join our Summer School.

Location

The program will take place in the city of Ljubljana. This European capital was recently voted to be the best city break destination in Europe and is a short 1 hour drive away from the Adriatic Sea coast.

The Summer School takes place at the Campus of School of Economics and Business (SEB LU), the scientific and technical centre of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The SEB LU is both a national leader and an internationally recognised academic and research institution in the fields of business and economics.

This was one of the first universities of excellence in Slovenia and is one of the top universities in Europe. The SEB LU has become the first and only Triple Crown School in the broader region to have been awarded the – EQUIS , AACSB and AMBA international accreditations. This achievement ranks the SEB LU among the top 1% of business and economic schools in the world. The SEB LU has been featured in the Financial Times’ European Business Schools Rankings 2021, becoming the first business school from Slovenia on this list. Also the SEB LU “International Master in Business and Organisation” (IMB) program features in The Financial Times’ 2021 ranking of the world’s best “Master in Management” program.

The city centre of Ljubljana can be reached within 5 minutes via the bus line or 10 min walking. Together with the EIT students, we want to experience Ljubljana and Slovenia with its great variety of cultural, sports, and social activities. During the social activities in the program, the students will experience the local culture and cuisine and visit one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

Accomodation

Accommodation during the 2-week Summer School is included and available at the DDB Hostel, located a short 2-minute walk from the location of summer school.
